Win the Day Racing was created in memory of Joe Trawitzki and to share the thrill of race horse ownership at an affordable price.  Our goal is to have fun racing (and hopefully winning), while also raising awareness for pancreatic cancer and thoroughbred aftercare - two causes very important to Joe.  Joe was a dear friend to many and truly had a personality that was larger than life.  In 2022, at only 46 years old, Joe passed away after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.  While he battled this vicious disease, Joe sought to “Win the Day” each and every day that he battled cancer.  

Joe’s initial calling was as an educator, earning a Bachelor’s degree from UW-Stevens Point and later a Master’s degree in education administration from Concordia University.  Later, he earned a law degree from Marquette University Law School.  In addition to teaching,  Joe was a longtime baseball, fast-pitch softball, wrestling and football coach.  Through his coaching, Joe touched the lives of literally thousands of student-athletes in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area and beyond.

In 2015, Joe met the love of his life, Alyssa. After a two-year courtship that included a trip to the Royal Ascot with a horse they owned in a partnership, they were married in a magical ceremony in Lexington, Kentucky. Joe and Alyssa shared a love of thoroughbred horses and they owned race horses that competed throughout the United States and Europe.

Joe also passed his love of thoroughbreds on to lifelong friends Sam Hall and Katie Barelmann.  Joe and Sam made their first horse purchase when they bought a fractional ownership interest in eventual Breeders Cup Champion, Belvoir Bay.  Over the years, Joe and Sam partnered on several other racehorses and broodmares.  That initial ownership experience provided the foundation for Sam and Katie to eventually form their own racing and breeding operation and to start Win the Day Racing.

Win the Day Racing was created to honor Joe and to attempt to provide the same thrilling experiences that attracted all of us to thoroughbred horse racing to begin with!
